Behind the Design: How We Created WonderSkips With EVA

When we started Simples, we asked ourselves a question that every parent knows too well: why are toddler shoes always either too stiff, too fiddly, or just not built for the way kids actually move?

That question led to WonderSkips — our first shoe, designed from the ground up with little feet (and tired parents) in mind. Here’s the story of how we made them, and why we chose pure EVA as our foundation.

Why EVA?

• We tried countless materials before landing on EVA — a lightweight, flexible foam. Here’s why it won out:
  
  
• Soft and flexible: EVA bends with toddler feet instead of fighting against them. That means natural movement, less tripping, and more play.
  
  
• Lightweight: Shoes shouldn’t feel like bricks. EVA makes WonderSkips feel “barely there” — which is exactly what toddlers need.
  
  
• Water-friendly: Mud, puddles, playground sprinklers… EVA handles it all. Rinse, dry, repeat.
  
  
• Durable: Toddlers are hard on shoes. EVA keeps up without breaking down.

In short: EVA ticked all the boxes for safety, comfort, and practicality — without overcomplicating things.

Designed With Toddlers in Mind

We worked with pediatricians, podiatrists, and parents to answer the real-life challenges of toddler shoes. The results?

• Wide toe boxes so little toes can spread naturally.
• Easy slip-on design that makes mornings less of a wrestle.
• Smooth edges to avoid rubbing or blisters.
• Simple straps that even tiny hands can manage.
  

Every curve, strap, and hole placement was tested against one question: does this make life easier for parents and healthier for toddlers?

We imagined the shoe in every scenario:

Why “Simples” Matters

We didn’t call our brand Simples by accident. Parenting is complicated. Shoes shouldn’t be. WonderSkips reflect that philosophy: simple design, thoughtful details, fewer things to worry about.
